The 9th edition of the International Conference on Advancements in Nuclear Instrumentation Measurement Methods and their Applications (ANIMMA) took place in June 2025 in Valencia, Spain. During the conference, Jérémy Perrot, a member of our MOPERE team, received the Best Student Paper Award for his presentation titled "Mixed Neutron and Gamma Radiation Effects on Optical Fibers Performed at CERN’s n_TOF NEAR Irradiation Station." The paper was co-authored with ANDRA, the industrial Exail, as well as several teams at CERN. The award was shared with Cecilia Montecchio, a young researcher from EPFL.

The research focused on studying the effects of intense mixed neutron and gamma radiation on various optical fibers and their coatings, aiming to better understand their durability and performance in harsh environments such as nuclear facilities and space applications. The work involved extensive irradiation experiments at CERN’s n_TOF NEAR facility, providing valuable insights for developing more radiation-resistant fiber-based sensors and to support a structured approach for selecting fibers and coatings suited to such environments.

Congratulations Jérémy on this well-deserved recognition of your PhD research work!
