Post-doc: Checking moLecular dynamics simUlations of fs-laser peening with a free Electron laser

Expected start date: September-October 2026

Expected duration: 18 months

Salary: ~4400 € gross/month

We are currently seeking a postdoctoral researcher in molecular dynamics (MD) computational modeling of ultrashort laser-matter interactions to uncover non-equilibrium dynamic response of metal targets under extreme pressure, compression and tensile conditions.

The postdoctoral fellow will join our computational research team PREDICT to perform multi-scale TTM-MD atomistic simulations at the Laboratoire Hubert Curien, Saint-Etienne, France and collaborate closely with Deutsches Elektronen-Synchrotron (DESY), Hamburg, Germany and the Georges Friedel Laboratory in Saint-Etienne, France to analyze and to interpret the experimental data of laser-induced pressure wave dynamics in-situ probed by X-ray Free Electron Laser (XFEL) in metal targets.

Prerequisites:

  • PhD in Physics, Chemistry or Materials Science,
  • solid background in laser-solid interactions and thermodynamics,
  • strong expertise & publication record in molecular dynamics.
