Laboratoire Hubert Curien (UMR CNRS 5516), joined by another UJM laboratory Sainbiose (U1059 INSERM), is participating EU Horizon H2020 EIC (European Innovation Council) project “LaserImplants”, together with 4 other partners from France (GIE Manutech-USD, Saint-Etienne), Germany (Bundesanstalt Für Materialforschung Und Prüfung, Berlin) and Austria (Universität Linz, Danube Private University Gmbh, and Hofer Gmbh & Co KG, Linz).
LaserImplants, or better known as “Laser-induced hierarchical micro-/nano-structures for controlled cell adhesion at implants”, is a 2-year long and 2 M€ worth EIC Pathfinder pilot project (FET-Proactive), aiming at developing one-step ultrafast laser-based surface functionalization solutions for actively controlling (pro and/or against) human cells growth on implant materials. The goal of LaserImplant is to stimulate cooperation between academia, research centres, laser-processing device developers and implant producers for future smart medical implants, addressing wide-spread patient’s needs in the fields of, to name a few (but not limited to), dental prostheses, miniaturized pacemakers, fracture fixation screws and plates for bone regeneration.
LaserImplants is to kick-off in January 2021. More details and updates can be found at the official website https://cordis.europa.eu/project/id/951730.
