Adriana Morana Wins the IEEE NPSS Paul Phelps Award 2017

Adriana MORANA has been awarded the 2017 IEEE Nuclear and Plasma Sciences Society (NPSS) Paul Phelps Award. The IEEE NPSS (http://ieee-npss.org/) is the premier professional association for the advancement of the nuclear and plasma sciences, sponsoring seven technical conferences and three peer-reviewed journals.

Adriana was a Ph.D. student in the Laboratoire Hubert Curien, where she was advised by Aziz Boukenter and Emmanuel Marin. Adriana defended her PhD Thesis in December 2013.

Adriana received this award for her research contributions on radiation effects on fiber-based sensors. All her studies focused on the radiation-induced effects in silica-based optical fiber sensors, mainly based on Fiber Bragg gratings, for point measurements, and scattering phenomena, for distributed sensing. The main topic of her Ph.D. work was the development of a new manufacturing method of radiation-resistant temperature and strain sensors based on fiber Bragg gratings. The obtained results led to a patent and a European project HOBAN for marketing such sensors.  Adriana has authored or co-authored 14 publications in international journals and she has attended several times NSREC, RADECS and ANIMMA conferences since the beginning of her research work on radiation-effects. Next year she will continue her collaboration with the University of Saint Etienne and the MOPERE research group.
