Manutech-Sleight "Surfaces Light Engineering- Health & Society": UJM obtains a substantial financial support to implement a Graduate School for the benefit of the Lyon Saint-Etienne site
Manutech-Sleight "Surfaces Light Engineering- Health & Society": in the framework of the “Investissement d'Avenir” Program 3 (a state funded program dedicated to excellence in higher education), Université Jean Monnet (UJM) obtains a substantial financial support to implement a Graduate School for the benefit of the Lyon Saint-Etienne site (as part of Université de Lyon)
Coordinated by Prof Florence Garrelie, Director of the Hubert Curien Laboratory (UJM / CNRS / Institute of Optics Graduate School - IOGS) with Université Jean Monnet, the project of Graduate School (“Ecole Universitaire de Recherche” in French) “MANUTECH-SLEIGHT” has just been selected out of 191 applications reviewed by an international jury in the framework of the “Investissement d'Avenir” Program 3. The aim of the project is to set up a graduate school combining master's and PhD programs in close relationships with research laboratories part of the consortium. UJM acts as a central part of the project.

The ambition of MANUTECH-SLEIGHT project is to establish an internationally recognized graduate school, on the topic of light-surface engineering, thanks to the convergence of several disciplines: optics-photonics, materials science, mechanics, imaging, informatics and bio-engineering (orthopedics or ophthalmology). Societal outcomes are expected especially in the fields of energy and health.
This graduate school will be made of five existing Master's degrees and two doctoral degrees from Université Jean Monnet (Faculty of Science and Technology), Institute of Optics Graduate School, Université de Lyon and INSA-Lyon. This graduate school will also benefit from firm bases of funded programs of excellence: EquipEx Manutech-USD (Ultrafast Surface Design) and LabEx Manutech-SISE (Surface and Interface Science Engineering).
This Graduate School will integrate the know-how of both higher education labs in Saint Etienne and Lyon as well as the industrial partners involved (HEF Group, Manutech-USD, Keranova and the FrenchTech #Manutech label). This environment will provide researchers with full capabilities to meet end-user guidelines, to manufacture and characterize surfaces, to show cost-effective use cases.

The call for projects Graduate School (“Ecole Universitaire de Recherche” in French)
Launched by the “Commissariat Général pour l’investissement”, an emanation of the French State, and the Ministry for Higher Education and Research, it aims to promote, in France, the internationally recognized model of graduate schools, associating research organizations, economic and industrial actors within a strong international environment.
Following the results of this first call for projects, announced Tuesday, October 24th, 2017, the Lyon Saint-Etienne site (Université de Lyon) has been awarded € 15 million in order to run two graduate schools, including Manutech Sleight.
